Good news

Great news! - We recently met with Galway County Council Engineering staff and brought them along the potential Gort River walk - They confirmed that the proposed amenity for Gort Town & its hinterland has significant merit & should be explored further. They outlined to us that this is 2-phase process - the first phase is project design- discussing, speculating, designing, talking, planning, more talking, engaging until we know what we want .The 2nd Phase is delivery.
We will need funding for these phases such as Outdoor Rural Infrastructure Scheme or the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund and we will be working with Galway County Council through this. This is really just the very very start - we have ideas but no firm plans but we will have in the not so distant future. Thanks to Cllr Joe Byrne, for progressing this and Cllr Gerry Finnerty and Cllr Michael Fahy for support during municipal meetings. Ministers Ciaran Cannon and Sean Canney for their support on this.
Thanks for our October volunteers (Gort Scouts and Gort Men's Shed, and the reams of other volunteers) that helped to make our mark! Thanks also to our dedicated 'team' Karen Oneill, P.j. Murphy (+Luis and Fernando), Sally+ Hugo,Open Sesame, Bryan Brennan, Renee Brennan, Stefano Stíofán Sopelza, Tonii Kelly, & Sean O' Connor who have put in the hours. As this stage we've met with Archeologists, Architects, Ornithologists, Rivers and Water, Inland Fisheries, Irish Trails, Rural recreation officer etc.and they have been very positive on what we're trying to do. It is important that we build more awareness of this potential wonderful Gort river walk so please share and remember .. the next steps,... are yours! -David Murray, Gort River Walk Development Group.
